The Marshlands Conservancy is located in Rye, NY, a small town located just east of NYC on Long Island Sound.
Marshlands Conservancy is a 147-acre nature preserve in the city of Rye that is 100% owned and operated by Westchester County Parks. It has numerous wildlife habitats from ponds to creeks to a large meadow area, succession forest, freshwater wetlands, and the only extensive salt marsh in Westchester.
If you’re traveling to Westchester County and looking for a relaxing short one-mile walk this is a great place. The area is quiet and surrounded by Milton Harbor in Rye.
It’s a beautiful hike that takes you through a well-maintained woods trail, to a large open field with tall grasses and wildflowers to a trail through marshland, then to a little beach on the bay on Long Island Sound.
All along there are beautiful views of nature, water, and the bay. At the small beach, there are all kinds of rocks to climb, different little trails around the shore, areas to explore, gorgeous waterfront views.
We loved seeing all the wildlife including wild turkeys, white-tailed deer, lots of birds.
When we visited it was not overcrowded. Good leisurely walk but no open bathrooms just a porta-potty bathrooms. There may be mosquitos in warmer weather so you may want to take necessary precautions.
** Please respect social distancing guidelines if you encounter other hikers.
