Garam masala can be bought in the shop or made at home. It’s a versatile seasoning that goes with practically every dish, no matter how it’s prepared. Like many seasoning blends, masala means “spices” and garam means “hot,” and it varies from region to region.
Experiment with different combinations to determine which one works best for you, or make your own batch. It’s no surprise that there are so many various garam masala recipes on the internet because almost every Indian household has their own version of the homemade garam masala powder recipe.
How to store Garam Masala
Garam masala loses its flavour when exposed to air. Keep it in an airtight jar to prevent it from losing flavour over time. Plastic containers should be avoided since they absorb the flavours that the spice mixture produces as it ages.
Keep it air-tight covered in a cool, dry area. You can also store it in the freezer or refrigerator.
